Whether it’s to keep critters out or pen pets in, fences are a necessity for a majority of home owners. Sometimes fences are necessary, such as when a property has a pool or pets that would run wild otherwise. Others prefer fences for seclusion and privacy.
Regardless, there are different factors that affect the ultimate choice of what type of fencing to purchase and install. Height, cost, and material are perhaps the most important three. While metal and stone fences are certainly popular because of their durability and design, wooden fences can provide much of the same security as well as an aesthetic benefit.
Design and Installation
Wooden fences can be purchased or created. Whether they’re constructed from store-bought wood or pieces found in nature, they still serve the same purpose. They can be made using the cheapest wood or the most expensive. The pieces can be cut in intricate designs or just shaped in the most basic manner.
A wooden fence does not have to be rustic, either. Although most people might think of farms or the country when they hear “wooden fence,” the most contemporary homes can enjoy the timeless look of a well-designed wooden fence. Some home owners even choose to create unique fences by blending wood and other materials such as concrete.
Another bonus of wood fences is they can be installed relatively easily. Only minimal materials and knowledge are needed to put up a simple wooden fence. A person can do a lot with some wood pieces, a hammer, and some sturdy nails.
In addition, the internet offers a vast amount of resources including DIY videos. A simple YouTube search of “How to build a wood fence” yields numerous results. Step-by-step videos and guides can offer all the instruction needed for constructing a simple wooden fence.

Wood is an excellent choice for fencing material because it is a renewable resource. Anyone with an Eco-friendly mindset might be more partial to using it for this reason.
Although some argue wood fences are not as strong as other materials and wear down more quickly, they still can last a relatively long time if properly taken care of. In addition, if pieces rot or break and need to be replaced, they can easily be chopped up and used as firewood or for other purposes.
Depending on the area, sure, wooden fences may not withstand extremely high winds or heavy snowfall. However, in locations where those are not concerns, wooden fences can be a beautiful and inexpensive barrier choice for home owners.

Wood fence posts, and a well-maintained fence, can add real value to your home. Even if you are not planning to sell, there are hundreds of reasons to put in a fence.
A wood fence looks great, and they have improved dramatically over the past few decades. Gone are the days when you had to be concerned about using wood and having it rot or get fungus.
Nowadays, the wood that is used to build both the panel sections and posts is treated to ensure that it will last for twenty years or more.

The manufacturers have also made it much easier to install wooden fence posts. You now have a choice of using metal stakes with the posts or of going the more traditional route and digging the holes for posts.
A metal stake will drastically cut down the number of hours that it will take to construct a fence if you were planning on installing wood fencing yourself.
To construct a fence of any kind, be it, a picket fence or a split rail, you are going to have to measure exactly where you want the fence to go.
This is vital because you want to make certain that when you place your fencing order you get precisely what you need. You want to make certain that you will use every board, and you do not forget things like the cap for each post.
There are companies that have websites that can assist you with getting all the right items. These sites will allow you to put in the length of the fence that you need and then will help you to figure out exactly how many posts you will have to get, as well as, the number of corner posts.
It will also include any hardware that you may have to get with each panel to be able to install it. The program will then be able to give you a reasonably close estimate of the cost of your fence.
If you are concerned, you can speak to the company directly and get additional assistance. For those of you who are not handy, you can choose to buy your fence online and have a professional come and do the installation for you.
A fence is not hard to put in, but if you do have a yard that is hilly, or has any other strange quirks, you may be better off getting at least some help with the installation. You want your landscape job to look perfect.
Wood fence posts and picket fences – is that not the image of the urban home? A great fence will keep the dog in the yard, and will help keep other animals out. It can also add to the curb appeal of your residence if you do intend to sell the property.
